High-Speed Production Counting and Pulse Measurement with Titania

Production machines frequently expose pulse outputs from proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, encoders and index marks. Titania provides eight isolated digital inputs with per-channel accumulated counts and frequency measurement up to 1 kHz, making it suitable for distributed counting close to the machine.

Signal engineering

Select the correct dry-contact, PNP or NPN input mode and verify the ON/OFF voltage levels. Choose rising-edge or falling-edge counting according to the sensor behaviour. Use shielded or segregated cabling where noise or long runs could create false transitions.

Digital filter selection

The filter should reject contact bounce and electrical noise without suppressing legitimate pulses. Compare the shortest valid pulse width with the selected filter time. High-speed electronic sensors generally require shorter filtering than mechanical contacts.

Data handling

  • Read the 32-bit accumulated count and per-channel frequency over Modbus.
  • Define rollover and reset behaviour in the host application.
  • Store a timestamp with totals used for production reporting.
  • Reconcile the counter against a known quantity during commissioning.

Typical applications

Use cases include piece counting, shaft or roller pulses, conveyor speed, cycle counting, package detection and totalisation. Where the count is commercially or legally significant, apply independent validation and controlled calibration procedures.

Technical basis: Titania Modbus DI-8 DO-8 datasheet TTN-DS-2026-001, issued 19 July 2026. Confirm the current hardware, firmware and controlled document revision before implementation.
