Mounting quality directly affects the measured signal. A rigid, clean and repeatable mechanical path is essential if vibration trends are to represent the machine rather than the installation method.

Select the mounting method

A threaded stud normally provides the most stable high-frequency response and should be preferred for permanent monitoring where the machine can be prepared safely. A high-force magnetic base is useful for temporary or movable installations, provided the surface is flat, ferromagnetic and free of scale, paint build-up and debris.

Align the axes

Document which sensor axis corresponds to radial horizontal, radial vertical and axial machine directions. Consistent orientation makes trends comparable and supports fault interpretation across similar assets.

Cable and connector practice

  • Use the specified M12 A-coded connector or approved integral-cable option.
  • Provide strain relief and avoid cable movement that can inject mechanical noise.
  • Route the cable away from high-current switching conductors where practical.
  • Maintain connector sealing and verify the final ingress rating for the complete installation.

Commissioning check

After mounting, confirm the sensor identity, axis response, temperature plausibility, communication quality and baseline stability. Recheck mounting torque or magnetic seating if the spectrum contains unexpected broad-band or resonance behaviour.

Technical basis: PyXis Smart 3-Axis Vibration Sensor datasheet TTN-DS-2026-002, issued 19 July 2026. Confirm the current hardware, firmware and controlled document revision before implementation.
